The new PG website is live www.nipgl.co.uk This was announced this evening at the PG Management Meeting. Thanks to the Irish Bowling Federation for obtaining the funding from Sport NI and conducting the tender process, Sport NI for the funding of the website and Avenir Sports for the website design and training. This website should incorporate everything from bryansbowls and the IBA Yearbook. We can only hope that this site keeps bowlers as well informed as bryansbowls has done for the last 12 years.

This site will replace bryansbowls. So all the fixtures, results, tables, competition draws etc will appear on www.nipgl.co.uk. I don't know how long Bryan will keep the bryansbowls site up. Although the fixtures are on bryansbowls the results and competition draws won't be added to that site as the year goes on.

Hey bri I've had a quick look at the new web site looks good but if most people are like me and use mobile devices to view and use this should the programmers maybe look into making a mobile friendly app ? Just a thought might make it more user friendly

I know Android and Apple apps use different code to design therefore it's really 2 apps that would be needed. I don't know enough to say whether the info behind the website and both types of apps could be shared because otherwise you are in to duplication of a lot of work to keep all 3 current. That aside the main problem would be funding the development and I doubt the original agreement with Sport NI extended to app development. I can ask the questions though and see what it would take.
The website itself is a Wordpress site and the theme used allows for a lot more options than basic Wordpress sites. The theme is responsive which means it takes the information from the website and puts it in different format for mobile viewers hence what we see on our phones.

Beautiful very professional website. Pity the red letters on a grey background were chosen. The designer for got colour blind men see red as grey.
It would be easy to change that to white on grey or red on white.
Otherwise a great site the best of all NI bowling sites.

That was my fault Jonboy.
I'll see what the other options are, but basically if we remove grey backgrounds then everything should be ok?

That was my fault Jonboy. I'll see what the other options are, but basically if we remove grey backgrounds then everything should be ok? As I see it yes, removal of the grey background would work. My purpose was to be helpful - so that colour blind people can use the site easily. As you will know but with so many other things to think about over looked that many men are red colour blind - they see red as grey. I enjoy using such a professional site on macbook and iPhone. The site portrays PGL as a very professional organisation. Well done

I'm glad to get any feedback, particularly when it's something as important as making sure the site is accessible and can be read by all.
I've been in contact with the designer about changing the background on the slider to white from a grey/black. The slider carries the headlines top right and has links in red so I can see it being a problem.
If there are any other suggestions or problem areas I'm happy to look into them to improve everyone's experience of the site.

Bri When accessing the PGL website on my desktop the home page headings towards the bottom of the screen ie League,PGL Cups, Rules, the drop down menus that appear drop down off the screen. It is therefore necessary to scroll the headings halfway up the screen at the start which is not particularly user friendly and somewhat defeats the purpose. Do you know if this is a browser problem or a design fault. If the latter perhaps the webmaster could at sometime do some fine tuning and swop these headings with the lesser used ones at the top of the screen ie IBA, Archives Maps etc which don't have drop down menus.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to look at this properly. Yes both the length of the menus and the colour issue still need addressed. I'm guessing the 3 areas that cause problems are Leagues, Championships and Rules as all have a long list of sub items.
The reason the IBA etc are at the top in a different menu is that is a sub menu so will be accessed after the main menu on mobile devices so if we swapped stuff as you suggest then the leagues, fixtures etc would drop down the list on mobiles which isn't great either. I need to sit down with Mark at some stage and see is there a better way to structure the menus that is as logical but not as long in parts.

Thank you for the explanation Bri. Clearly there is a lot more information on the new website and with that comes more complexity, hence sub menus, windows within windows, and double scrolling, all requiring additional time and effort. Not so straightforward any more.
