I never played there unfortunately, very good club back in the day I believe. I guess it shows how things have changed Knock and Ormeau are 2 other clubs I have heard were quite the force at one stage but I've never played against either of them.
Up at Willowfield today I was impressed with their honours board, I had never realised before they had such an illustrious history in terms of titles.

Bornagain I'm not to sure what the relevancy of my comment on Owenbegs green is to encouraging or not people taking up bowls?? I think if you ask the majority of bowlers they will agree. It was simply a crap green. If you disagree that's fine as it's your perogative the same way that anyone can have an opinion on anything aslong as it can be substantiated. Btw I detest aliases! Just my opinion and if you need that quantified let me know. More relevant to this thread than your comment and opinion that Owenbegs Green would play better now it was overgrown than it did previously when it resembled a back garden/ploughed field which of course you can't substantiate. By the way perogative is spelt Prerogative. As regards Aliases if you had used one we wouldn't have known you were such an expert on verbal vacuity

Themcgraths for the record I didn't criticise Owenbeg BC but their green. You can adapt better on a green and win. However, that doesn't mean that the green wasn't terrible!
I cannot disagree with anything you have said Invermilane. Knock and Willowfield have a fantastic history. As we are talking about greens Knocks was like lightening and a billiard table.

A keen eye will spot it!! I caught it Chris but that's the problem with written media I guess, tone, inference and unintentional mistakes are hard to spot. As I always say don't email or post angry Just to get back on track I played Downpatrick this week for the first time in yonks very, very, tricky as visitors but the 4 against played very well to make the most of their home advantage some very good bowls.

Ok, wanted to make sure you didn't think it was directed at everyone. I'm not angry as thats pointless on here.
Played Downpatrick last time several yrs back. It was hard sandy and cut low in the middle of the green then long grass the last 3-4 metres. Was terrible but I managed to adapt.
Alot of greens have deteriorated over the last number of years ours included.

Alot of greens have deteriorated over the last number of years ours included. Any thoughts on why that's the case? Weather or just shortage of monies in clubs? Or do people just look back with rose tinted glasses? Willowfield rink I was on today played well tbf.

The willowfield green always plays well. But we are getting away from the real point here and that is is there anybody out there who would come along and reopen Owenbeg Bowling and get it up and running again.

Would be nice to see a club/team join the ranks as the trend as been the reverse in recent years across the PGL & NIBA but once a club goes it seems unfortunately they do not return.

If you look back to the winters 2009/2010, 2010/2011, and to some extent 2011/2012 then 2012/2013 there have been prolonged periods were work to greens have either not been possible or significantly compromised due to snow/frost/ice.

Ofcourse it is sad that any bowling club has to fold as it is a stark illustration as to how the game is declining. However, I dare say that the green will be infinitely more playable in its current state than it ever was!!!! #backgarden #ploughedfield is statements like this supposed to encourage people to take up bowls ,virtually all greens are in the lap of nature, cutting, spraying etc help the look of the green but they don't eliminate runs which can change from week to week and its no ones fault, that's the nature of grass greens, I have just read someone on this board has made the statement about bmena going to dromore today and has already put a question mark on the dromore green , as bmena has already played in dromore before ,can,t see them having any complaints. ps ask JIM BAKER and co. Would like to know who from Ballymena is supposed to have criticised Dromore green? To the best of my knowledge nobody did either beforehand, during or after so please get your facts correct!!!
