MESSAGE FROM HON. LEAGUE SECRETARY
Should a team playing Division 5 bowls in 2015 not enter a team in 2016, then only the team that wins Division 5 in 2015 will be promoted. Two teams would be relegated from Division 4 at the end of the 2015 season.

This is an absolute disgrace,so you have a team knocking their pan in every week finish second in a competitive league to be told at the start of next season they are back to square one? This needs to be looked at again.

Would it be at all possible for someone to inform us how and why this decision was taken ,I asked this question in an earlier post ,but it seems we the people who pay our registration fees don't matter. So I'll ask the question once more,DOES THIS APPLY TO ALL DIVISIONS,if not,why not? Between fees, expenses etc I reckon this season will cost me nearly £680 . Who decided this ,and who were consulted.

Doubt it makes sense for many people Teatime when you cost it out but diminishing numbers I guess are not making it any cheaper. In saying that I have love playing in the PGL fantastic standard just perhaps need to look at not arresting the decline in numbers but reversing it.

If you look up the Rules Governing the League Championships in the IBA Book page !00 No 1 or on the Website under the same titles, the number of teams for each division based on the overall number of teams in the PGL have been set out quite clearly under the new format. It could be if 2 or 3 teams withdraw nobody will be promoted.

Winkers is right. The rule of how the divisions will be made up numbers wise is spelt out in the current rules so if 1 team withdraws then Division 4 will drop 1 team to make 10.
The purpose of the post was to give clubs a heads up as to what will happen if a Division 5 club withdraws. The only reason we have highlighted what will happen is because several teams have played short-handed this year and in a few cases matches have been conceded so there is a real risk that a team withdraws for next year.
If a team in higher division withdraws then there would be a knock on impact on the promotion and relegation in the divisions to rebalance them in accordance with the rule, but as there is less risk of that happening there isn't the same need to spell it out.

I got that BRI, having 11 teams in div.4 and 12in div.5 I can see the logic in that. The fairest way around that would be if a team from div.5 pulls out next year the promote 2 teams from div.5and relegate 1 team from div.4 instead of 2. Rather than having div4 and div.5 with 11 teams in each ,meaning there would be an imbalance on fixtures,ie 1 team from each section not having a fixture ( bye) on a given week ,why have div4 with 12 teams and div.5 with 10 teams. Anyway thanks for your reply.

This daft 8 player rule is killing the smaller club to play two teams on a Saturday cliftonville B is a perfect example they have had to concede 2 games already due to not being able to play these guys ! I know they were selected by their own clubs but for clubs that struggle to put out 32 players each week on a Saturday its hard not to pick some of these players it's a disgrace so you will I'm sure have more than 1 team failing to continue in the league next season so what happens then a whole new league restructuring AGAIN!

Guys if you remember this DAFT 8 PLAYER rule was agreed by clubs at the last AGM. Clubs were complaining that some clubs were fielding their top players (Senior 1 as it was then) in their Junior teams to help gain an advantage and they did not think this fair so that is why the rule was introduced. If clubs have alternative suggestions I am quite sure the GP committee will be happy to discuss them. If clubs wish to put forward a proposal to the GP committee, or to the next management meeting then please do so and it can be discussed and taken forward to the AGM. At the end of the day clubs have to decide if you are happy to have some restrictions in order to promote fair play or go back to anyone playing anywhere for any team and accepting all the consequences that brings. The choice is ultimately down to the clubs not the powers that be.

Govener. Don't blame the 8 player rule for not being unable to field 2 teams on a Saturday. You need a mininmum of 35/40 players for this and if you have starred your top 8 A team players they should never be playing for the B team anyway.

I'm sorry lads but that sounds like you play for teams that have no problem to put out 2/3/ maybe 4 teams ! Unfortunately so called lesser clubs don't have that luxury, any one with a bit off sense can work out by players registered with the pgl as usual the club's with 100+ members don't have this problem the club's with 35/40 members are being crushed by rules so if they can't make a team up then 20 fringe players won't play again for that club because they can't get on a senior team or can't play midweek. Like all organisations built around the big guns

Govner When I said 35/40 players I meant Saturday PLAYERS. If you only have 35/40 MEMBERS including fringe players you should only have one Saturday Team and a Midweek Team. You then have all your members available for Saturday and a Midweek Team as you don't then need a panel

Nonsense winkers the lads that play midweek play mainly midweek there is a senior team and 16 other guys that want to play bowl on a Saturday but not senior bowls (ie the guys want out for a few hours) Now some not all these guys can't commit every week for one reason or the other so with this the other dozen guys loss out because 8 more players can't drop in and play! Suits the club's with 100+ members fact !

I'll be polite Govner and say your missing the point.Let me explain it simply This Saturday Cliftonville have to put 2 teams out that's 32 players both to play at the same time ie 2pm start A Team 16 players including the 8 panel players B Team 16 players Total 32 players needed In your last post you said some of the B team can't always commit to play every week and so lets say they are going to be 6 short on Saturday They therefore need 6 more additional players to cover, not 6 panel players from the A team, not 6 non panel players from the A Team. but 6 more on top of the 32 making 38. If the Club haven't got those 6 players making 38 they will have to concede the B game just like they did on the 16th May and the 27th June Nothing whatsoever to do with the 8 panel players that you indicated earlier.
Alternatively if there were no panel players, imagine that Cliftonville B team were lying top of Div 5( not unlikely !) coming into the last game of the season which happened to be against the team lying second. The other team play say 4or5 A team players two of which were skips and who would currently be panel players. They win the game, win the title, and take the only promotion spot. You'd be spitting bullets and rightly so, because they had effectively cheated. A lot of Clubs would have no hesitation in playing a few A team players in that situation hence the need for Panel players.

Fair point govner. I think Cliftonville had to postpone their B game this Saturday due to lack of players I heard last night
